Kolam drawn on the ground with the help of chalk powder looks awesome if very decorate it with the followings :
1. Color powder, which is available in local market and glitters of colours such as gold, silver and variety of colours.
2. Flowers - We used to decorate kolam with flowers on special functions. This flower decorated kolam fills the environment with holy vibrations. It gives a pleasant smell and a cool view with colourful flowers. From the ancient times, people in South India used pumpkin flowers in the mid of the kolam.
3. Salt - Now-a-days people mix colors with the stone salt and spread in the kolam which gives a different look.
4. Seeds & Grains - Very recently I have visited a kolam competition, there some people used different grains and seeds to decorate kolams.
Whatever may be, the kolam with clear white i.e. charcoal mixed with raw rice powder looks outstanding..
